Instruments of the Wilson Collection, Vol. I [NEW!]
Charles West Wilson of Red Lion, PA has one of the outstanding collections of English
harpsichords and fortepianos. This first CD in a planned series of five opens with Krebs’s grand
Sonata for Two Keyboards, on the unusual combination of Kirkman harpsichord
and Broadwood piano. It continues with the delightful Philadelphia Sonata no. 3
by Reinagle, on an ideally suited square piano. There follow brilliant selections by Smith and Zipoli,
highlighting the features of the Kirkman and Slade harpsichords, respectively, and then
the celebrated Handel E major Suite, with the Harmonious Blacksmith variations. The CD concludes on a more
Romantic note, with an expressive selection from Clementi’s Gradus ad Parnassum on the Broadwood.

Six Sonatas by Alexander Scriabin

Lawrence Budmen of the American Record Guide remarks of this CD, "Big-boned pianism,
rich tonal colors and dazzling technique are on display here. Has Scriabin ever been played better?"

The Complete Mazurkas of Karol Szymanowski
Pictured is my compact disc recording (2002) of the Complete Mazurkas of Karol Szymanowski. These exquisite mazurkas
were the subject of my doctoral paper Karol Szymanowski: Revitalizing the Solo Piano Mazurka
Genre (2001), my AMS Lowens Award lecture on that subject, and my paper The 'Szymanowski
clash': Harmonic Conflict and Ambiguity in the Szymanowski Mazurkas, which won the
2003 Stefan and Wanda Wilk Prize for Research in Polish Music. This article will be published shortly online at
the Polish Music Journal. For those unfamiliar with this composer,
I recommend the informative website Karol Szymanowski info.
